When It All Goes Tits Up

So, this happened:

It’s been an eventful couple of days.

There is nothing like your boiler going ‘bang’ and being condemned by the gas company on the spot. It happened in the middle of the night and I honestly thought a car had hit the front of the house, the noise was that loud. Luckily, the damage was quite contained.

Even better, we were half way through the month and it was almost three weeks until I got paid. Ever tried to live in a house full of people without hot water for two weeks?

Ever tried  to live in a house with no hot water and toddlers? It’s pretty grim and I will admit I panicked at the thought of spending the two weeks until I could afford to get the boiler fixed repeatedly filling the kettle overtime one of us wanted to wash ourselves or the dishes.

Also, walking up and down with a kettle full of boiling water really isn’t the safest thing to do with kids running around.

Short of selling a kidney I didn’t have much of a chance to raise the money fast – everything that wasn’t nailed down had already been sold on eBay to fix the window that fell out when I tried to clean it (IKNOW!) so I needed to borrow money fast.

I have always been dubious of loan companies until now and I scoured the next to find a quick loan that I could use to get the boiler fixed before we all began to stink in the summer weather.

Four days later, we had this put in:

The job still isn’t finished, we need to get the plastering and tiling redone – who’s stupid idea was it to plaster and tile over the pipes so that there was no way of getting to them? – but it’s getting there slowly. Plus, the tiles were crap anyway so it was a good excuse to get them put right and we are going to change the whole lot rather than try to match them to the old ones – I am thinking go going down the dark route to match the rest of the house.

I actually ended up being glad that the boiler exploded because now we have a lovely new boiler which is way better than before – as much hot water as we need without having to wait hours for it to heat up in between baths.
